Mason Public School Foundation Hosts Successful Gala and names 2023 Top Dog Award Recipients
MASON, MI: This weekend, the Mason Public School Foundation (MPSF) hosted their annual Gala to raise money in support of the Mason Public Schools’ students, faculty, staff, and administrators. This event, which is typically the largest fundraiser of the year for the group, brought in over $90,000 in donations in support of the community’s schools.
“The Mason community highly values our schools and are always looking for ways to get involved and help,” said MPSF Vice President Melissa Nay. “The money generated from this event, and all other MPSF-sponsored events, go directly back into our schools and have a huge impact on the student experience.”
At the annual Gala, the MPSF announces those that have been selected as the “Top Dog” for the year for outstanding support for Mason Public Schools’ children and staff. This year, the foundation awarded the Community Top Dog honors to Moore Trosper Construction, a family-owned firm led by Mason Public Schools graduates. Moore Trosper plays a leading role in constructing and refurbishing buildings through the school district.
In addition, the MPSF offers an award to a non-teaching staff member in the district, and this year that honor went to Dr. Jan Alleman. Dr. Alleman taught Social Studies education at Michigan State University for 45 years and has used her decades of experience to mentor teachers throughout the Mason Public School District to help them grow and improve.
“I first came to know Dr. Alleman when my kids saw her inspiring the Breslin Center to root for our Spartans,” said MPSF President Barb Byrum, who nominated Alleman for the award. “When I came to know about her contributions in the district and the impact she had on so many students throughout her distinguished career, I could not think of anyone more qualified for this award!”
As evidence of her desire to lift up the next generation of teaching professionals, Dr. Alleman’s special guest at the Gala was Mason Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year, Tiffany Henfling.
